(By Bruce Levy “Be a Blessing” Fundraising Chair)
What could be better than celebrating the 160th Anniversary of the oldest Jewish Congregation in Texas?
Marking the event with the creation of a new Torah commissioned specifically for Beth Israel that includes over 1,000 letters completed by Temple and Shlenker School families! All Beth Israel and Shlenker School families are invited to participate in Be a Blessing and inscribe a letter in our People’s Torah.
In addition to scribing, a financial gift provides the opportunity to dedicate a specific portion of the Torah. Separate from the scribed letter, the dedicated portion creates a meaningful remembrance for your family and support for our Congregation. You can select a meaningful portion of the Torah to dedicate in celebration of the 160th anniversary, in honor or memory of a dear one, or to recognize a special event. Our wonderful Clergy is available to help families discover appropriate and personal dedications.
Be a Blessing will create a lasting legacy for future generations of Congregation Beth Israel and the funds raised from the generous donations will help our Congregation meet the needs of today and tomorrow. Fortunately, thanks to the generosity and stewardship of committed Temple members, Beth Israel operates responsibly within a balanced budget each year. However, our future requires that we successfully solve four critical issues for us to thrive.
- Retire the remaining debt incurred during the most recent beautification and reconstruction.
- Fund the purchase of the last parcel of land adjoining our Antoine cemetery allowing it to fulfill our needs for several future generations
- Establish a fund for critical maintenance on our campus and cemetery properties.
- Grow Beth Israel’s endowment from its relatively small level for a congregation of similar age and size to an amount capable of independently supporting our inventive and engaging programing and services.
By making your dedication, you will help propel Beth Israel toward an unencumbered future focused on creating a most vibrant and perpetual Jewish community.
Your greatest gift begins when your hand extends to join the Scribe’s as he guides you to complete a letter of Torah. Our greatest gift is celebrating Beth Israel’s 160th Anniversary knowing the Congregation’s best years are yet to come. If you have not yet secured a date, I hope that you and your family register for a scribing time as soon as possible. When you do, please consider making a dedication. I can assure you, it will make a difference.
