choose-torah-portionThank you for considering dedicating a piece of the Torah during Congregation Beth Israel’s 160th Anniversary celebration. Several giving levels exist to allow everyone to contribute in a way that is personally meaningful, and each giving level includes the opportunity, among other benefits, to dedicate some part of the new Torah in honor or memory of a loved one or in honor of Beth Israel’s 160th Anniversary.

Not certain which Torah letter or verse to dedicate?  Not to worry.  Our clergy and staff, as well as the Sofer (our commissioned Torah scribe), will help you identify a dedication selection that has special meaning for you or honors a loved one. And dedications are not exclusive as more than one person or family may choose to dedicate the same part of the Torah. Each dedication category (letter, word, Biblical name, verse, passage, portion, prayer, or book) has many options from which you can select. And if you’d like the Sofer to speak with you about your dedication selection when it’s your turn to scribe, be sure you make your dedication prior to your scribing date.

How to begin? Once you’ve determined the level at which you’d like to make a dedication:

  1. Please see the Torah Dedication Pledge Form for some of the more commonly selected items in each category. This list has wonderful and meaningful options for each level.
  2. In addition, our caring and wonderful clergy are happy to visit with you to explain in more detail anything on the list or to help you identify another meaningful option within your dedication level.

There are so many reasons to dedicate: a special birthday, anniversary, bar/bat mitzvah, marriage, special occasion, in honor of a loved one’s profession or hobby, or in memory or in honor of a family member or friend.

Please indicate your selected dedication on the Donor Form and return it to Congregation Beth Israel with your pledge/payment.  During your session, please understand that you most likely will not be scribing a letter within your specific dedication given where we are in the text at that particular time. However, the Sofer will certainly speak to you in person about the significance of your special dedication.
